Vlogs and Younow

Posted: August 13, 2012 in Uncategorized

So I’ve started to make some Vlogs (Video Logs). What inspired me to start making these Vlogs is a website called younow.com. Its where you do live broadcasts and get to talk to people in a chat box. I’m currently level 10. Some people on there were telling me that I should make Vlogs, so I made my first one the other day. I’m currently making a second one as I type… say hi. But I may end up linking the vlogs to this site. Expect me to post the first one in a new page I’m creating called Vlogs. I wont be making daily ones anytime soon, especially with school this close. Also sorry I haven’t posted in forever… I got sidetracked by younow.

I’m sorta mad. Not at any of you, or anyone really for that matter… mostly at myself. I promised myself I’d post more, which I haven’t really been doing if you haven’t noticed. So this is sort of a checking in kinda post to get my posting started up again. So this post won’t really be about anything, just a bunch of random things… hence the mysterious and hooking title.

So its currently 1 am here, and I’m bored. I’m rarely bored nowadays, but because my two best friends are at summer camp I’m actually bored. This bordem has sparked up my interest in new music. I’ve recently began to love the bands Weezer, Daft Punk, and The Temper Trap (but mostly Weezer). I never thought I’d get into Daft Punk, but hey, you learn something new everyday right? I’ve also become obsessed with some movie soundtracks… like for the movie Juno, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, and Scott Pilgram Vs. The World. There all very good movies with very good soundtracks. You should definitely give them a listen

So I might as well post about it at one point… I’m addicted to minecraft. It’s an unhealthy addiction… but its so fun. I was gonna end the paragraph there but short paragraphs annoy me, even if there used to be dramatic, or whatever.

Am I boring you already? I wonder how many people have stopped reading this post…. Oh well. Thank you to the fans that have continued to read. I feel like I’m not as sarcastic later at night, would you agree? At this point I’m not sure who I’m talking to…. maybe my very loyal single fan.. if I even have one. My english teacher would murder me if she ever saw this post. Well oh fucking well.. “YOLO”. I fucking hate yolo.. I only use it sarcastically. Well this whole paragraph was a bunch of bullshit. But it was sarcastic bullshit.. so its ok.

My brothers going off to college soon, so I’m nervous and excited for him… but I’m pretty sure my mom is worrying enough for all of us. He’s at his orientation today.. well tonight… he’s spending the night there. I’ll be starting school soon. Whoopdy fucking doo. I’m actually sorta in a weird way looking forward to school because I developed a new way of thinking (kinda I guess) this summer so that should be interesting how my classmates take that. I really hate a lot of my classmates. They’re just so annoying.

I just realized that this blog is pretty much me just typing in what I’m thinking and publishing it. Why fucking not? What could go wrong? Well I guess some things could go wrong, but whats life without risks? Why do I keep asking all of these rhetorical questions? Ok, well this blog post has been sufficiently pointless, and I’m probably going to bed now. Who am I kidding no I’m not. I’m way too lazy to put any tags on this…..

So over twitter I found this amazing band, Alaska Campus. I began listening to all their songs through soundcloud and I fell in love. I bet I played their songs at least 20 times each, and I’m not exaggerating. I messaged them on twitter asking them if they wanted to do an online interview with me for my blog. Lucky for me, they agreed. The interview is at the bottom of this post. Here’s their soundcloud account, definitely listen to them… they are worth it.. http://soundcloud.com/alaska-campus

My personal favorite songs by them are You, Me And The Sun, and Mon Reve. I’m surprised they aren’t better known, considering they’re amazing. I’ll also include a picture of them, and I hope to see them on Spotify and iTunes someday.

Alaska Campus

Here’s the interview… enjoy. I know I did.

  • How many people are in the band?
  • There are four members in Alaska Campus.
  • What are your names?
Ryan Potter – Synth, rhythm guitar and lead vocals
Daniel Dorney – Synth, lead guitar and backing vocals
Liam O’Sullivan – Drums, percussion and backing vocals
Liam Fossey – Bass, and backing vocals
  • How old are all of you?

Three of us are 20 and Fossey is 21.

  • How long ago did you start the band?

Early 2011 was the start of the band. However, Fossey and Liam are new to the band, only by a few months.

  • How did the band start?

We all met on a music college course in different bands, over time musically we fit and so started Alaska Campus.

  • What made you pick the name Alaska Campus?

Dan and Ryan decided to have a ‘band evening’ to sort out what our first steps were as a new band etc, that quickly turned into a alot of drinks lol lots of ideas went back and fourth but they both loved Alaska and had always said that one day they will backpack there so they thought why not have it in the band name. After we had Alaska, campus seemed to be the best fit to complete it especially as we have a big young student following.

  • Where did you get your inspiration?

We are all inspired by bands/artists we all listen to, we all have quite different tastes, which is good, we are strongly influenced by The Smiths, Death Cab For Cutie, Bombay Bicycle Club. Seeing our favourite bands and bands we look up to is always a huge inspiration because they were just like us or any other band at some point, getting goosebumps from listening to a song or an overwhelming feeling is the impact we’d love to give people.

  • What was your first song?

Our first song was ‘Blow’ from our EP ‘Keep Yourself Warm’ it was written about the film Blow with Johnny Depp, an amazing true story.

  • What’s your favorite song you’ve written?

We are all proud of the music we have produced so far, we all have different favourites but i think overall we’d have to say ‘Story Of Alaska PT.1′ which will be our first released single.

  • What’s your favorite place you’ve performed so far?

I would probably say a venue called ‘The Heroes Bar’ in Camden, had a really good show there, lots of people came to see us, good feedback, it’s a really cool bar, really old school and vintage, not like alot of bars nowadays, also a few of our favourite bands have played there.

  • Where do you hope to preform in the future?

In the near future, we’d love to play Reading or V festival etc, Love to play Alexandra Palace on day after seeing our biggest influence Bombay there.

  • Do you have any advice for aspiring bands?

The only advice we can give, is a bit that we got given, which is no matter who asks or whatever anyone says about your band or music, always be proud and confident that your music is amazing and special, always believe that cos if you don’t think 100 per cent that you can make it or be what you wanna be then no one will.

  • What are some of your goals for the future?

To get more and more established, tour round the world, play shows to thousands and have everyone appreciate us as a band and have a good time.

  • Do you have any music recommendations?

Said The Whale – Howe Sounds/Taking Abalonia album – huge influence to our stuff. Frightened Rabbit, and of course Alaska Campus ;)

  • Are there any specific people you have to thank for your success so far?

Our families, i know it’s cliche but they really do support us so much and help any way they can, also our friends in the AC group, who always get down to a show and are up for a good time no matter where, and anyone that has ever checked us out, listens to us, bought any cd’s or been to a show!

Be sure to check out Alaska Campus’s songs and like their facebook page .

“Happy” July

Posted: July 1, 2012 in Uncategorized

Notice the quotation marks. I like July I guess, but nothing ever really happens. My town puts on this huge parade every year, and knowing my luck my street does on every other year. And guess what….. this is one of the years. I actually had some ideas I was pretty enthusiastic about but no. They had to do the dumbest idea ever. Our floats theme is candy land. Fucking candy land. To top it all off we have to do a ridiculous dance along with it that makes me want to stab my eyes out. And the music… oh god.. the music. I’m not even going there.

But me being my clever self I got out of having to be in the float. Well, sort of. I”m handing out water. Exciting right? Better than being a “sourpatch kid”. That is the name of the kids group. I kid you not. The horror of this float has caused a short post today.. I’m fucking tired. Excuse my profanities… Some people actually still believe I have “Class”

It going to be a short but sweet post today. So today a new Muse song came out. I’m in love with Muse and the day I found out Matt Bellamy was taken I was so sad. But more importantly their new song. Its amazing. It’s called Survival. I’ll leave a link at the bottom but its going to be the London 2012 Olympics theme song. It defiantly deserves it. Like I said before, its amazing. Sorry, this song is so good it makes me un able to refrain from repeating myself over and over again. Its so good I don’t even know if that made any sense. Check it out

I know I haven’t done a monday night rant in forever. I’m a terrible person. But better late than never right?

First completely necessary rant: “Yolo”. I appreciate the thought that you only live once and you should make the best of it, but that sure as hell doesn’t mean go out and get stoned and pregnant. It amazes me how Drake can say one phrase and suddenly every one  starts saying it. The only way you will ever hear me utter the word “Yolo” is if I’m mocking some slut trying to make up an excuse for acting like a total dumbass. Anyways the Strokes made the song You Only Live Once way before Drake came out with his song, and you don’t see all the Stokes fans running around screaming you only live once. Once when I played the Strokes song a girl in my grade got mad and said they copied Drake’s song which was way better. I kid you not. I still regret not punching her in the neck  and walking away. Too bad we were in the middle of health class…

Moving onto Victoria’s Secret’s Pink brand. Apparently you have to wear all Pink clothes if you want to be considered “cool” by stuck up girls that I like to call the cult of whores. I’m allowed to call them that though because I used to be friends with them till they kicked me out of their group for being too original and liking a different kind of music… long story. But anyways I was never really into wearing all Pink clothes but there are literally girls that make it one of their life goals (right behing being on the show 16 and pregnant) to own more Pink clothes than their best friend. I’m not even joking here. Sure I like Pink’s bras and everything, but is it really that vital to spend all of your parents money to wear a shit to appear more appealing to girls you don’t even like?

Now I’m going to talk about how people think its cool to MåKë ãłł øF tHērĘ têXt ŁïkÉ ThΚ. I’m not sure why but people think that makes whatever their saying 5 thousand times cooler than before. Well it really doesn’t. Personally when I see it at first glance it looks like they ran their hand across the keyboard… that might just be me though. And whenever I’m reading that kind of thing out loud to a friend or something I always make sure to pronounce everything weird, just because thats how I imagine it. The only way I’d ever do that is if I’m in French Class and I’m actually using it for the language.

That last sentence actually brings me to my next topic: Insane french teachers. I’ve never heard of a sane french teacher. I just haven’t. My french teacher is so disorganized and hair brained. I swear everything just goes straight over her head. Two of my indie friends are in that class and we just laugh at her. I felt bad for her insanity for a while, until she moved the guy I sat infront of. He is one of those guys thats annoying and funny at the same time, and he flirts with everyone. But he was one of the only things keeping me from jumping out of the window in that class. She caught us talking one day and moved him because she said I was distracting him from doing his best. Never mind the fact that he was talking to me.

I think I’ve blown off enough steam for this monday, don’t you? I promise I’ll try to keep up with these Monday Night Rants better than before. I’ll have plenty of time to blog now though because I’m grounded. Long story, I don’t want to talk about it. I prefer keeping things bottled up. It’s ironic that I’m saying that on a monday night rant post, isn’t it?

So I’m still waiting to hear back from Alaska Campus about our interview but I sent them those questions like 8 days ago and I haven’t gotten a response. Hopefully they’ll get back to me soon because I’m excited about this. For now you can listen to some of there songs here: http://soundcloud.com/alaska-campus
